Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Sanilac County Criminal History, you accept these privacy practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log or database of the terms entered in those boxes.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained so that we can respond and preserve the related exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems receive routine technical details when a page loads, including:

  • Page-view times and the length of visits
  • The pages opened during a visit
  • Device type, operating system, browser, and browser version
  • The device's assigned IP address
  • A referring website, when one supplied the visit

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They and analytics services help us view aggregate traffic, such as popular pages and common exit points. A browser can block cookies, though disabling them may change how some parts of the site work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search query to the provider that handles it
  • Maintaining site availability and page speed
  • Finding faults and resolving technical problems
  • Measuring which material is useful or needs improvement
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect a visitor's interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Sanilac County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies routes to the Sanilac County sheriff, the 73A District and 24th Circuit courts, the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the site's search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and disclosure practices govern any information submitted to them. Review the applicable provider's policy before running a query because we do not control its handling of that data.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Sanilac County offices, Michigan agencies, courts, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor follows such a link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

Some advertising companies may use their own systems to track activity across websites for interest-based ads.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners that process submitted queries
  • Advertising networks that serve content on these pages
  • A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information within our control. No internet service is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. If such information is identified, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Privacy rights depend on the law that applies to the person and the data. The Michigan Freedom of Information Act governs access to public-body records, not data held by this private site. Subject to applicable law, requests to us may include:

  • Opting out of certain processing when the law permits it
  • Requesting correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Asking for access to personal information we hold
  • Seeking deletion where a legal right applies
